At Preferred Machine Works, we are committed to delivering reliable and extremely precise results when machining, measuring and finishing.
What is CNC Machining?

CNC, short for Computer Numerical Control, machining is a highly sophisticated manufacturing process that uses computer-controlled machines to create precise parts from a wide variety of materials, including metals, plastics, and composites. Using coded instructions from specialized software, CNC machines automate the control of tools like drills, lathes, and mills, allowing for extremely precise and repeatable production.

- Private interests
How It Works
The CNC machining process begins with a digital design, often created using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software.
CNC Milling
A rotating cutting tool removes material from a workpiece that remains fixed. The milling machine's cutting tools move along multiple axes to shape the material into the desired form. Basic mills have 3 axis: X, Y and Z. More advanced systems have up to 5 axis and offer greater versatility in creating complex, detailed parts.
CNC Turning
The workpiece rotates while a stationary cutting tool removes material to shape it. This method is commonly used for producing cylindrical or round parts like shafts, bolts, and pins. Unlike milling, where the tool moves, in CNC turning the workpiece itself spins. Turning machines or lathes usually consist of two axis: X and Z.

Benefits of CNC Machining
Accuracy & Repeatability
Can quickly produce high-precision, identical parts in large quantities, making CNC machining ideal for mass or single production.
Speed & Efficiency
Fast and efficient process that can operate continuously, reducing production time and increasing overall productivity.
High Versatility
Can work with a variety of materials, including metals, plastics and composites, making them suitable for various industries.
Cost-Effective
Saves costs over time through faster production, reduced labor, and less material waste especially on parts with a simple structure.
